Our Team

Chloe Berkowitz

Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director

Hi, I’m Chloe Berkowitz! I’m 18 and I’m a senior at Geffen Academy at UCLA. I became inspired to co-found this organization when I was watching the news on the Taliban in Afghanistan forcing people out of their homes and country. When refugees began to travel to America, I thought about all of the teenagers just like me, who would have to suddenly adjust to such a different environment.

Outside of Teens at the Door, I love science, art, sports, and my friends. I play beach and indoor volleyball. My favorite things to do are to hang out with my friends, watch TV and youtube, and draw. Another one of my passions is saving the Earth from climate change.

Hugo Chiasson

Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director

Hi, I’m Hugo Chiasson! I’m 17 and a senior at Geffen Academy at UCLA. In August 2021, I watched as the planes took off from the Kabul airport and could not help but feel like I had to do something to help all those people forced to leave their homeland, most especially the teenagers like me who would be uniquely impacted by their displacement.

I love politics, film, and learning about people and the systems around me. I am also passionate about Constitutional Law. My favorite activities are reading, working on campaigns, writing, and watching movies. Recently, I served as a Delegate to California Boys and Girls State 2023, where I was selected as one of two students to represent California as a Senator at Boys Nation this past July. While there, I presented my resolution on refugees. You can read more about it here. I’m also a member of the Olivia E. Mitchell LA City Youth Council, where I am advocating for policy on behalf of youth in Los Angeles, including refugee youth. Most of all, I hope that in the future I can help to make the systems which protect refugees function better than they do today.

Austen Kite

Chief Operational Officer

My name is Austen Kite, and I’m Teens at the Door’s Chief Operating Officer! In my free time, I love playing volleyball and baking. I am fluent in Spanish and English and am excited to apply my bilingual skills to communicate with Spanish-speaking refugees. I have always been a social butterfly and love connecting people together. Teens at the Door has an amazing mission that connects teen refugees with other teens, making them feel more comfortable in an unfamiliar environment. I am so excited to be a part of the organization and make a real impact, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for teen refugees, bridging cultural gaps, and building friendships.

Beau Chiasson

Chapter Coordinator

Hi, I’m Beau Chiasson! I’m 15 and I’m a sophomore. I decided to join this organization after learning about how the US pulled out of Afghanistan, watching the videos of refugees hanging onto airplanes as they took off. When I learned about Hugo and Chloe meeting with teen refugees from Afghanistan, I was immediately compelled to do everything in my power to help.

Aside from Teens At The Door, I run track, I make movies, and I love science, and I love to make music. If we get the opportunity to work together, ask me about some of my interests! I’d love to talk with you about anything I listed.

Sophia Jones

Web Master

Hi, I’m Sophia Jones. After meeting with Chloe and learning about their inspiring work at Teens at the Door, I immediately wanted to be a part of it. Having previous coding and technological skills, I decided that this would be a good way to put them to use. Spreading awareness of the struggles many kids my age go through is something I enjoy and I’m so glad to be part of the Teens at the Door family to do so!

Apart from Teens at the Door, I love medicine, science, coding, volleyball, piano, and helping others in need. At school, I run the Medicine and Science Club and organize semester blood drives. I also am currently doing research on science-related topics with my research class at Geffen. In my free time, I enjoy ice skating, cooking, and reading.
